Posture correction on the intermediate level is concerned with correcting the anterior pelvic tilt with an exercise that will stretch tight deep hip flexors, while at the same time strengthening the underactive Gluteus Maximus. In this posture correction video, this is an example of a demonstration for an intermediate level client that has developed an adequate level of strength and balance to be able to start the walking lunge exercise.

How to do the intermediate posture correction exercise

This posture correction shows the beginning approach to performing the walking lunge exercise when there is a need to progress from the beginner’stationary lunge. A further progression from this exercise would be to place the hands behind the head to add further challenge to the exercise, to give the further benefit of balance and core training.

To perform this posture correction exercise, start from the standing position with your hands in front of you. Take a lunging step to the front as far ahead as possible making sure to still be able to keep your head and shoulders straight up. Step back up into the standing position and then alternate with the other leg, breathing in through the nose on the way down and exhaling fully through the mouth on the way up. During this posture correction exercise it’s important to keep the body upright during the entire movement, no leaning forward.

To progress from this movement for more challenge to the core and stability muscles, perform this posture correction exercise with the hands behind the head.
